How Lenders See It
A Bet on Your Statement Is Not an Automatic No
Lenders read your bank statements to see how you handle money. Now and again from spare cash is a very different picture from daily deposits funded by an overdraft. This is what they look at.
- ✓How often: regular daily or weekly deposits look like a pattern
- ✓How much: large or up and down amounts compared to your income
- ✓Where the money comes from: gambling on an overdraft, credit card or payday loan is the big red flag
- ✓The rest of your account: missed payments or living in your overdraft make gambling look worse
- ✓We check your statements with you before anyone runs a credit search
How We Help
How We Get Your Case in Front of the Right Lender
Five steps, and you will know where you stand after the first one.
Go Through Your Statements
We look at your last few months of statements with you, the way an underwriter would, so there are no surprises later.
Spot the Red Flags
Overdraft use, payday loans, missed payments or big deposits. We tell you what a lender will pick up on and what is worth tidying up.
Plan the Timing
Sometimes applying now is fine. Sometimes a few clean months makes all the difference. We will tell you which.
Pick the Right Lender
Lenders treat gambling very differently. We go to the ones that look at the full picture, not one transaction.
Apply and Complete
We present your case honestly, handle the underwriter questions and see it through to the keys.

Gambling and Mortgage Questions, Answered
The things people ask us before they apply.
Will gambling stop me getting a mortgage?
Not on its own. Occasional gambling from money you can spare is usually fine. It is frequent gambling, large amounts or using borrowed money that causes problems.
How far back will a lender look at my bank statements?
Most lenders ask for your last three months, and some ask for more. That is why the months before you apply matter most.
Can I hide gambling transactions or close my accounts before I apply?
You cannot hide them, lenders see your statements. Be upfront with us. Cutting back or stopping before you apply is what helps.
Is a small weekly bet a problem?
Usually not. How often you gamble and where the money comes from matter more than the odd small amount.
What are the biggest red flags?
Gambling on an overdraft or credit card, payday loans, regular large deposits to betting sites and missed payments.
Can I get a mortgage if I have used payday loans?
It is harder, especially alongside gambling, but some lenders will still look at it depending on how recent the loans were and how they were managed.
I have gambling on my statements now. What should I do?
Cut back on new transactions, keep borrowed money out of it, and speak to us before you apply so we can plan the timing and the lender.
Can a mortgage broker help with gambling?
Yes. We know which lenders take a fuller view of your finances and how to present your case honestly.
